I will be visiting Providence and am looking for a special occasion Italian restaurant unique to the city. Thanks for any suggestions!
Here's a good start for ya..
Another suggestion -- Al Forno. The owners invented the grilled pizza, have been seen on the Food Network, and have always gotten rave reviews. I believe it was a Julia Child favorite, and I just read a recent review that said Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman were spotted there recently. And common people like me like it, too.
I know about Federal Hill but I don't know which restaurant is a good choice. Plus it will be a Sat. night so I would like to make reservations.
Our favorite on Federal Hill is Mediterraneo.
Information on Mediterraneo and other restauratnts such as Alforno can be found on the following web site
Well if you like italian food Basta restaurant is fabulous 401 461 0330 for reservations. Prices are reasonable and extremely delicious!!! Al Forno is good but a little too pricey and so is mediterraneo.
Al Forno is famous...but you might have to mortgage your house to pay the bill. My friends just ate at Constantino's (they have a fabulous Italian market just across the way) and they LOVED it. And they are real foodies.

Neaths is an ecellent restaurant with an ever changing menu and quite a change from most of the same style restaurants that are in and around the providence area. It has a california and asian flare to it!
WE have eaten at Basta in Pawtuxet villiage we enjoyed that very much.
