car rental in december

Is there a way to avoid high rental prices at phoenix airport. We'll be there from the 14th to the 25th. Thanks for any comments.

You are aware that you put your PHX related post in the Tucson forum; right?

If you are flying into PHX and want to rent a car, perhaps look into flying directly to Tucson if the price of the flight combined with the car rental price ends up being less...

Check the car rental sites (all of them!) and look at surrounding locations. You could catch a cab there... Sign up for their loyalty program...

You posted in the Tucson forum. If you're coming to Tucson, you may want to just fly into Tucson and that will be the best way to avoid the extra fees at Sky Harbor.

Otherwise, if you want to fly into PHX, there are several threads (some very recently) about off-airport car rentals that are accessible by the light rail system. If you do that, I would suggest going with Budget, Hertz or Avis, only because they almost always allow one-way rentals and often do not charge if you return it within the same city, so you can rent off-airport but return it to the airport without the extra fees from the airport.

A new car rental facility, which all the companies are using, has been built outside the Phoenix airport grounds. So, renters are being charged a fee for the facility. I know that Enterprise charges less at other sites in the Phoenix area, but they might be difficult to get to. Don't count on the light rail getting you there. I am not sure about the other car rental companies.

Are you going to Phoenix or Tucson? You have caused a great deal of confusion by posting in the Tucson forum.

Search the Phoenix forum for discussions on car rental and options. There's nothing new to report, and various ways to avoid fees.
