Well, we're supposed to get rain this weekend. That should help with the wildflower situation- due to the lack of rain this winter the flowers haven't done much.

As I understand it, the wildflowers need a good amount of rain in January, then a sudden warm burst in March, to really pop out at their usual time (a couple of weeks from now). In years past when the flowers were really good, that's how the winter had gone. This winter has been so dry and, for the most part, warm, that it's unlikely to be very impressive. We'll see what happens with the rain though (if it does actually rain).

There are spotty reports of wildflowers already in bloom. What Colin says is very accurate, as usual from him.

The area around Ajo and the western part of the Tohono O'Odham tribal lands received more rain during the winter than Tucson. There are poppies now at Organ Pipe NP, but that's a long and desolate drive. Also reports at Ajo.

One allegedly reliable area is along Hwy 286 from Hwy 86 to Sasabe, west of Tucson. An area where I have frequently seen good displays is south of Willcox along Hwy 181 on hills there, but a few weeks from now, and no idea whether it is reliable there or not.

Because of the heavy rains in November, some are actually predicting a very good wildflower season:

I'm starting to see some pop up along Oracle Road north of Tangerine.
