Tonight in San Antonio (5/28)

My 22 yearold daughter and her friend are driving cross county. THey will be arriving today in San Antonio. They are looking for fun things to do tonight and tomorrow. Their hotel is walking distance to Riverwalk, is that all tourists? I saw the St Mary's Street area mentioned. Is that the place where the college crowds hang? Is this a safe area? How close to Riverwalk? Thanks for the last minute help!

The colleges are just about all out of session, and SA doesn't have the college scene that Boston does. The Riverwalk is mostly tourists, but not bad if you're there for one night. In the area, buy away from the toursits in Liberty Bar (good funky not-expensive restaurant in a building that lookas if it might fall down). It's on the North side of d'town/ Have them journey up to Alamo Heights and hit Central Market for road snacks. the place is a giant goumet market. Imagine Whole Foods tripled.
