This would be sort of like finding Mexican food in Europe,it just ain't the same....but, we have our own version of Dirty Nelly's at the Hilton hotel. Lots of US tourists here you could rub elbows with...peanut shells on the floor! There is also Waxy O'connor's on the riverwalk.

Howl at the Moon Piano Bar next to Hard Rock would be a good choice...a sing a long with alot of music classics.

..

Swig's Martin Bar, Zinc Wine Bar

..

typical things, Alamo, Missions, Rivrewalk

etc

...

day trip to Austin

...

food, food, food ....hamburger! steak! blue bell ice cream!!

..

find a Texas honkey tonk / country bar

hello Lucky, unfortunately, the train system is almost non existant in TX. A rental will serve you better. Some folks have used hotwire.com ...not sure if the rate is much more for international rental or not.

....

in between Austin and SA is Gruene, TX. It was orginally a German settlement. I do think it is worth a stop off the freeway to see the oldest dancehall in TX. There is also a wine tasting room with many different TX wines. There is a general store that I think you would enjoy. The area is small but very TEXANA. There is also the Grist Mill restaurant that is terraced over the Guadalupe River...enjoy a margarita, chicken fried steak, stuffed jalepanos. There is a music store...LoneStar Music that carries virtually every Texas artist/musician.

...

if you need any personal suggestions, please feel free to pm

enjoy TEXAS

Wow, pruske25--you are going to be my new best friend while I plan my potential trip in February! Your post was a wealth of info which I saved to my SA folder.

Now I just need to see if late feb. is a good time to visit and that I can find an affordable/convenient place to stay.

....off to read more on this forum.
