La Mansion del Rio vs. Hotel Contessa

Hi! We're trying to figure out which hotel to stay in. We are looking for riverview, romantic, more quiet than rowdy, and accessibility to Riverwalk. We have reservations at both hotels right now and aren't sure which one to release.

1) Omni La Mansion Del Rio (Riverview)

2) Hotel Contessa (River Suite)

What are your recommendations and why? (or do you recommend somewhere else?)

For financial purposes, we also tried to get into the Drury Inn and Suites, but not river view available. Might be too loud also, since it is Spring Break week! (week of March 15)

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried Valencia?..Now that is Romantic..Watermark would be my second choice..La Mansion is an exquisite old lady..It used to be one of the best, but it is dated(probably 30-40 years old)..Great Riverwalk views..More centrally located..There have been several complaints of noise if your room is facing Navarro ST...Contessa is a suite Hotel and only 2 years old..It is located away from party central..Nothing spectacular..San Antonio is not a Spring Break destination..VALENCIA.....

We've stayed at both; tough call since both are good. I slightly prefer Contessa for the larger and more predictable rooms. Also neato pool on the roof. But that's the trade-off: La Mansion has character, which means different types/sizes of rooms, and Contessa is a little bland, with everything the same.

Spring break will not be a big issue here - you'll see families with younger children, but few college partyers. Seaworld and Fiesta Texas will be crowded but not packed.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Since we've got reservations at both right now, we probably need to choose one or the other. Still can't decide, even after the feedback. Sigh.

Any other feedback is appreciated. Thanks to those who've posted.

I agree with the other posters, I would go with La Mansion del Rio for the old time charm plus being central located on the RW. It was renovated in Sept 2007 & has very comfy beds signature pillow-top with antique style furnishing. The balconies has a beautiful view of the river & has insulated doors & double paned glass. Also they have La Canarias a great place to go for Sunday Champagne Brunch.

If you are looking for more modern that open in 2006, it's on the quieter side of the river away from the central location but does have separate parlor from bedroom.

You can't go wrong with either but good choices just depends on your personal preference & which meets your criteria better.

Have a great time in SA & Please write a TR to let us know how it went & what you decided on, yours pros & cons!!!!!!
