3 days with 18 year old

We will be spending 3 days in San Antonio over the Fiesta Flambeau with our 18 year old daugher. We'll be staying at the Hyatt Riverwalk. What do you think she would enjoy on our visit and like to eat? Is she old enough to go to howl at the moon with us?

On Saturday morniing you could visit the King William Fair, an official event of Fiesta..under the big trees in the historic neighborhood and in walking distance from hotel. Jazz and other types of music.. if the weather is nice, it can get crowded so make a game plan in case you get seperated. Take a blanket or sheet in case you care to sit in the small park and listen to music....lots of food and quality vendors-crafts,art etc.

Get a position along the main street a little before 10am as there is a parade that is very neighborly/informal that winds through KW.

http://www.kwfair.org/

in the area is a very good restaurant calld El Mirrador- if you don't want to eat the junk food at the fair

================

you could visit Market Square during the day for homeade Mexican food from street vendors...gorditas, flautas etc... and some local/regional music. ....don't go in the evening, it will be packed.

___________

On Friday night you could try Night in Old San Antonio...lots of different food and fun...in La Villita...again it can get very crowded (back up meeting plan)...go when it opens at 5:30 and stay for about two hours. ..Fiesta is very colorful so almost anything goes fashion/color wise....some people decorate hats during the week...but, don't wear anything that you don't want a little beer to be spilled on..

mysanantonio.com/fiesta/Fiesta_101_NIOSA_A_N…

..................

if you have a car, don't plan on getting it out at all over the weekend...it would be pointless, streets will be blocked off for the parade etc., a real hassle to get in out of hotel

--------------------

lots of choices..almost endliess...

Enjoy!

Thanks those were fabulous ideas.

She is more into the shopping and artsy stuff. We're going to make her go to the Alamo! :) Her father is a huge history buff and when in San Antonio...the Alamo is a must. Can you tell me approximately how much time you think we'll spend there? I'm sure due to my teen we'll to a consolidated tour.

Thanks again!

A couple of hours at the most for the Alamo. It's right in the middle of downtown so daughter could do some shopping while you are at Alamo. If husband is really into history, I'd consider some of the other missions. Fiesta Flambeau is this Monday (4/19.) Fiesta Arts fair is this weekend - one of my favorites.

For traditional shopping there is Rivercenter Mall downtown,a couple of blocks away from the Hotel..Since driving will be difficult, use the trolleys and busses to get around..Put on your comfortable walking shoes and get out and walk the Downtown area(street level and Riverwalk)..There are plenty of quirky shops and a lot of eatires will have menus posted outside..Be sure not to miss Southtown!..Google Southtown.net On the site there is an interesting NY Times article..

Before you visit the Alamo you may want to see the movie at the IMAX "Price of Freedom" www.imax-sa.com which will give you & your 18 yrs old a better understanding of the Alamo www.thealamo.org importance. Take a stroll to the Guenther House www.guentherhouse.com & have breakfast or lunch. You could also visit Aztec on the River www.aztecontheriver.com You should take the river tour cruise which is a 35 min narrated cruise with lots of info. www.riosanantonio.com or you could go up to the Tower of the Americas www.toweroftheamericas.com & you could visit the missions www.nps.gov/saan.

You could do some shopping in the Market Square www.marketsquaresa.com & grab a bite at Mi Tierra www.mitierracafe.com or at La Margarita www.lamargarita.com

As mention you daughter could do some shopping at Rivercenter Mall www.shoprivercenter.com Also while on the RW you should stop at Boudro's www.boudros.com for a great meal with guacamole prepared tableside & you could have a yummy Prickly Pear Margarita.

Great hotel to pick! Rivercenter mall is right there so any 18 yr old girl that loves to shop will have a blast! Take the trolley to El Mercado and shop for some mexican items and eat there either at La Margaritas (fajitas) or Mi Tierras.

The Alamo is great for learning Texas/US history and will take a morning or afternoon.
