just booked our trip for spring break

I know that it seems that every spring break we are headed back to San Antonio...thats because we love it there and also it is a great trip and we get to see family! The Howard Johnson Inn and Suites in Balcones Heights has peaked our intrest and will be home while we are there. This year we will do a few of the repeat things we always do but we are really looking for new things we have never tried. I can't wait to hop on that plane and fly south

Do you stay in the San Antonio area the whole time? Or do you take day trips to places like Austin?

I am bringing my 2 kids ages 9 and 4...we have been to the Witte, the Zoo, of course downtown, the Snake farm, Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Park, Sunken Gardens....so really we need NEW things to do. We are thinking of taking a day trip down to the coast too. Thanks

You've done a lot of the kids things. Water activities would be a suggestion (Comal River, Landa Park, Schilterbahn, Guadalupe State Park to name a few) but may still be too cold. You will have to wait to the actual day to decide.

Coast is a good trip - Aquarium and Aircraft Carrier as well as beach. Ferry ride to port Aransas; boat sight seeing trip for an hour or so.

Bandera dude ranch would be an option also. You could either spend a night (they usually have fun chuck wagon dinners) or just do a few hours for riding.

Also, check out Our Kids Magazine It's a free publication that you can pick up a lots of places or at www.ourkidssanantonio.com

We're going in mid-March too! Are SeaWorld and Six Flags typically open during that time of year? (Only weekends, or also during the week?)

To the OP - If you're considering heading to the coast with young kids, you may want to think about the Spring Break crowds. I'm sure there are areas which are fine, but there are also areas you might prefer to keep impressionable children away from. ;)

Although Houston is a little bit farther, maybe your kids would enjoy the Houston Museum of Natural Science:
