San Antonio to Galveston - How?

Hi we will be arriving in San Antonio on the 31 August and need to be in Galveston on the 2nd Sept for a cruise. As this is a public holiday weekend we are not able to hire a car as all the locations in Galveston are closed. Can anyone suggest a way to get from San Antonio to Galveston that is time efficient. Thanks for your help.

I would talk to specific car rental companies and the cruise line. There must be a way to drop off the car. You can always rent the car for the length of the cruise and just park it. That option seems a little pricey. Some sort of driver service might be arranged from SA but, it too, will be pricey.

Another thought is that there may be transportation from either of the Houston airports to Galveston. You could rent a car and drive from SA to Houston. I guessing the rental car offices in the airport are open and then get the transportation to Galveston.

Drop off locations may be closed on Sunday, the 2nd, but should be open on Saturday. Can you rent a car and drive to Galveston on Saturday, and then spend the night before your cruise in a hotel there? This option will probably be much less expensive than renting a car for the entire time you are on the cruise, or any sort of car service you could find. There are really no viable, efficient public transportation options from San Antonio to Galveston.

You could try Amtrak but the train only gets you to Houston and then you'll have to take a bus to Galveston. Looks like a long trip and you won't get into Galveston until around 3pm...might be too late for your cruise.

I agree with Octoboy post about dropping off at the Houston Hobby airport.

You may want to ask this?? on the Houston Forum they may know a little better since it's there. You could also go to Cruise Critic & ask if anyone on there know how to do this since lots of people before a cruise travel before cruising.

Sorry but I'm not sure on this !!!!!

FYI there is a new bus service in Texas: Megabus will travel to Houston from SA.
