Nightlife on the Riverwalk

Hi all,

Planning three nights in San Antonio from March 16-19. Just wondering what bars are worth visiting in the Riverwalk area after dinner for a few drinks. It will be a Sunday through Tuesday.

We are an Irish couple in our 40's and are staying at the Drury Plaza Riverwalk.

Any recommendations?

Thanks very much.

funny you ask as there are 2 Irish bars on the riverwalk-one regular pub and the other sing-a-long

Waxy O'Connors and Durty Nelly's (piano daily)

Mad Dog's British Pub

Howl at the Moon...dueling pianos with classic pop/rock songs from 70s to the present...

http://www.howlatthemoon.com/the-show (go early) . opens at 7pm on your days

there is also Pat O'Brians- akin to the original club/restaurant in New Orleans- also dueling pianos but definitely go for lunch or dinner and try some Cajun/Louisiana food items

take a peek into Hard Rock Cafe ....a unique theme and bar downstairs

Zine Wine Bar

at Market Square, there is always margaritas!! in the daytime or evening. regular, mango, etc.

La Margarita, or Mi Tierra

pit stop at Boudro's on the riverwalk for quacamole salad made table side + prickly pear margarita!

more local is Southtown..in walking distance of RW...S Alamo St.- Blue Star

also in walking distance just north of downtown is TheCove..a local , eclectic place

also on the river is Esquire Tavern.....opened 1933/end of Prohibition...longest physical bar in Texas

with the original velveteen wall paper

I think Tejas has you covered. My recommendations would be

Esquire Tavern very near your hotel

Durty Nelly's for the sing along... its not just Irish by the way

The Cove might be a bit of a walk and not recommended late in the evening

and The Menger Bar in the Menger Hotel for its history

also love La Margarita

Have a great time

The Buckhorn Saloon is quite entertaining. I think it's on Houston Street. There are so many taxidermied animals, Old West displays, etc.

Im just glad you stayed at the Drury Plaza. Excellent hotel. 3 free drinks from 5:30 to 7 pm and food. An excellent breakfast as well.

As far as bars you could always go to Pat Obrien's and Zuni Grill (now Charlie wants a Burger).
