Two Extra Days Following San Antonio and Austin

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I will be visiting San Antonio in April for four days. Following SA, we will be heading to Austin for two days, but then have two extra days following that to explore another area/city. We are flying back out of SA.

We were thinking about Corpus Christie (after a long Canadian winter we would love a bit of beach time, even if the temperatures are not quite hot yet), but we're wondering if it might take too much time to zip down there with only two days available. We love music, photography, sports, and unique attractions. We have looked at Fredericksburg and it's not quite the right fit - looking for something maybe a bit more engaging / active.

Any thoughts on great places to visit within a few hours of San Antonio? Any ideas are much appreciated - thank you!

Corpus Christi is but 2.5 hours south of San Antonio. I would suggest you look at Port Aransas, just 30 minutes from Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico. Plenty to do and lotsa great little eateries as well as watering holes. Easy drive to Corpus Christi for shopping or museums if that interests you.

in San Antonio check out King William district adjacent to downtown...www.guentherhouse.com for lunch/breakfast

there is a city wide Fiesta in SA..April 10-27...best to avoid the last week..esp April 22-27..major parades, events downtown...

April would be a perfect time to head to the Texas coast. The chances of it being warm enough for beach time are pretty high. I wouldn't completely discount the Fredericksburg area though. While the town itself is all about shopping, dining, and wine drinking, there are some wonderful places to hike just outside of town, if that's what you mean by "engaging/active". Check out Enchanted Rock - tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/enchanted-rock - and Pedernales Falls - https:/…pedernales-falls . You could base yourself in Fredericksburg and easily do day hikes at both places, while enjoying the wine and food in town in the evenings.

Wow, fantastic replies, all! Much appreciated, and you have given us plenty to think about and research. I think we will probably make it to Corpus Christi / Port Aransas after all, but we will definitely look at all of the other options. Thank you!

Port Aransas would be my vote! Somewhat of a fishing village feel as it is layer back. We love to park our vehicle and rent a golf cart from Bron's for our days ther (keep over night) and drive the beach and all around town. Bring a soft sided cooler bag and hit the beach! I have written in more detail if you look at my reviews. We have stayed at a variety of places in PA. A drive to corpus is fine but we didn't enjoy the eateries ther like in PA. Enjoy!
