Thanksgiving in Santa Fe

Just booked last-minute a vacation rental for Thanksgiving 2017. We will sign up to do a Turkey Trot and hope the Lighting of Christmas Decorations on Santa Fe Plaza is still happening per tradition. What else do you recommend for a quick, long weekend?

OTher reccos we'd love:

Your top casual restaurant (b/c I don't have to have to pack fancy!)?

Breweries?

Wineries?

Performances?

Excited! Thanks, gang!

Thunderbird Bar & Grill is a nice, clean, affordable place to have a drink and/or a meal overlooking the Plaza. It's a casual place and right on the plaza. Del Charro is a hang-out attached to the Inn of the Governors and is a hang-out for locals. Their food is good, the prices very reasonable and they have a great fireplace for cooler weather. Pretty close to Del Charro is The Dragon Room Bar, 406 Old Santa Fe Trail. It's a nice little bar attached to the Pink Adobe restaurant, but we like to go to the bar for the conversation and it's got a great Happy Hour. There is even a tree growing through the roof. Most places in Santa Fe are casual. As far as events, check out the Lensic Theater for whatever is happening while you are there. It's a cool place. We saw Robert Cray there when we went. Have a great trip!

1...Never fear, the Tree lighting on the Plaza is still the night after Thanksgiving and its fun.

HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING

Historic Downtown Plaza

WHEN: November 24, 2017

Celebrate the holidays with the tree lighting at the historic downtown plaza beginning at 3:00 pm. Enjoy music, caroling, hot chocolate and a special visit from Santa. The main lighting ceremony beginning at 6 PM.

2...With very few exceptions, dining in Santa Fe is nicely casual! In a few, like Geronimo, you certainly can dress more formally if you feel like it, but it is not a requirement. First and foremost dining in Santa Fe is a treat. So many cuisines and so many wonderful chefs, most of whom are also presenting wonderful and unique Holiday Special menus. Check out Mucho Gusto, The Shed, even the Plaza Restaurant on the Plaza for local and casual. If you look through the TA listings and the restaurant menus, and end up with a special restaurant in mind, its good to make reservations now. Ask us about your choices if you need to opinions on 2 or 3 of your choices...but I normally go by the very most recent reviews and if the menu appeals to your own tastes. Everyone is so different in what appeals to them, what we enjoy could not actually be in your wheelhouse. NM cuisine can be very spicy.

3...The day after Thanksgiving is also traditionally the beginning of when many special events, art shows/sales etc. are scheduled and it continues up through Christmas Week. Last Friday art walk at the Railyard etc. Re-opening 100th Birthday celebration at and near the newly renovated New Mexico Museum of Art.

4...Wineries are out of town, mostly up near Dixon but there are many restaurants/lounges in town with great local wine lists. Terracotta Wine Bistro comes to mind for in town.

Santafe.org: done! Also, thanks TulsaZephyr (I went to Memorial HS, BTW) and MaryEllen! Clearly we need more than 4 nights!

Let me know when you decide to visit Colorado Springs so I can return the advice favor.
