You can usually be to Toronto after crossing the border anywheres from 1 1/2 to 2 or so hours.... Getting to downtown Toronto will also depend on the day and time. You should anticipate rush hours - ie: morning and evening.

As far as when the busiest times are that all depends on a day to day basis. We have anticipated long lines only to encounter nothing. Buffalo traffic is nothing like Toronto.

Also the times depend on which bridge you are crossing - we usually cross the border at Lewiston bridge which saves alot of time.

Look up holiday's too. Those can add more traffic than just about anything else to the border.

As for the bridges... I have always had the best luck at the Peace Bridge. Most of the Google Maps, Mapquest etc. Tell people to go to Lewiston which means that is the first bridge to get backed up if there is something going on. It is also the closest bridge to the outlet mall... which is a big draw for shoppers and can completely pack the bridge.

Each bridge authority has a website \ number that you can call to get an idea of the potential delays that day. By not crossing over Grand Island it saves time too because of the toll to cross the bridge onto the island. Lastly there is a fair amount of construction going on right at the 190 \ 290 interchange. I think they reduced the number of travel lanes around that interchange in one or both direction. Certainly something to avoid if it is anywhere near rush hour.

Hi mhtoon;

Downtown Toronto is approx. 107 miles from Buffalo Int'l Airport. The drive, non-stop and without traffic delays is about 2 hours.

Rush hour traffic leading into Toronto can add considerably to your drive, so try to avoid arriving in Toronto between 6 am & 10 am.

There are some car rental companies that will not permit their cars out of the state or out of the country, or charge a premium if they do. Most of the larger rental companies will allow cross border travel.

Ensure that the car rental company notes on the rental agreement that they authorize you to take the car into Canada. You may be asked by Customs when entering Canada, or when re-entering the US, for this documentation.

Some companies offer unlimited mileage, but only within the US. The rental company will use the onboard GPS to track your usage. The extra per mile charges can add up quickly, so be sure to ask in advance.

Best Regards
