Crossing the border and transport from and to the airport

Hi, I´m travelling to Buffalo to visit Niagara falls and I would like to also see it from the Canadian side but I have only 10 hours to the next flight, so I would like to ask how long does it take to cross the border to the Canada and then back to USA ( I mean if there is a a long waiting or some long controls for tourists or if it´s fast - just show the passport and ESTA).

And do you know how much cost the shuttle or the taxi from the BUF to the Rainbow bridge and back for 3 adults? Thank you (By bus it´s about 2 hours to get there, so we won´t use bus 24 and 40 to get there and bus 204 runs on a limited schedule so it´s not an option either :( )

thank you for your help

Your ESTA is for entry into the U.S. Assuming you're Czech citizens you'll just need to show your passport on entering Canada.

There are many factors to consider before providing an answer. What is the date that you will be visiting (is it a holiday in the US or Canada)? What time of day will you arrive and depart? In general, I find traffic on the Rainbow bridge to be less than the other bridges, but that being said, I have had to wait close to an hour to cross that bridge before. Sometimes customs officials bring people inside for questioning, and many times they do not. It's really quite hard to anticipate how long it will take you to cross back and forth.

If all you want is to see the falls, I don't think it's necessary to deal with the hassle of crossing the border to see it from the other side. If you want to go to a casino, eat a nice meal, stay in a hotel etc... then the Canadian side is better. If you just want to see the falls the American side will suffice.

we arrive to Buffalo 07/15/2014 (tuesday) at 10 am, so I hope that there won´t be so many people. Thank you for your help :) and it´s possible to cross the Rainbow bridge by walk?

You can easily walk accross the Rainbow bridge in about 4 minutes. It's a level bridge. No incline. Once accross the bridge, as long as your documents are in order, you should be able to clear customs in a matter of a few minutes.

You can get real time information on Canada border wait times at:

www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/bwt-taf/menu-eng.html

Right now the Rainbow Bridge wait time is shown as 30 minutes.

There's a similar website for US border wait times:

http://bwt.cbp.gov/

Right now the Rainbow Bridge shows no delay

So what you can do is try these websites at a time of day and day of the week similar to when you'll be traveling and this can give you some idea. Obviously, this is no guarantee it will be the same when you get there.

Walking across is a nice option. The bridge wait times vary but a Tuesday should pose no problem. Just make sure you have all your documents ready and tell them you are just crossing to see the Falls. Its a fairly long walk from the Rainbow bridge to the Horseshoe Falls but easily done. It is misty at that end so be prepared to get a little wet. Should take an hour tops. The USA side is OK if you have time. Its a different vista. There is also the Maid of the Mist boat ride as well.
