Winter in Newport

We are thinking of coming to Newport in January. Will restaurants and shops be open?

Most of the core shops and restaurants in town will be open. Some seasonal places further down Thames Street will have closed, but there are still plenty of places open.

I think only 3 of the mansions are open at that time.

Winter is a nice time to visit Newport IMO. As noted, many restaurants will be open. Also crowds are smaller, and rates are much cheaper. Sometimes you can even get a little lucky with the weather where it's not too cold to walk around.

That's right, we often experience a 'January thaw' early in the month where temps ease up a bit, until it gets downright frigid.
