roughly 24 hrs in Newport

On our way to Acadia, we will stop here. We know about 'cliff walk' and 'ten miles drive' and there is probably some beach area. we have a 11 year old daughter. Will be reaching at around noon, and one night stay. is middletown//jamestown too far to stay overnight? I understand, we will go to the hotel last. No need to waste the prime time. Anything else that we should see? Any suggestions will really be appreciated. Our first time in RI. We wrrive on sunday.. and leave on Monday towards Maine.

Shaiyan, you don't say when you'll be coming but I assume it's summer with an 11 year old with you. I would highly recommend you get out on the water. Your choices range from a water taxi to a harbor tour either sail or motor. There is also a great ferry but your stay is really too short for that. Arriving on a Sunday expect a lot of traffic. Ditch your car as soon as you can (there is a public lot at the Visitor's Center and a couple of other places off Thames St) and explore the harbor area on foot. The beach will be packed if it's a nice day and parking is expensive.

Jamestown only has one hotel, the Bay Voyage. If you did stay there then there is a great ferry that runs from a dock a 5 minute walk away right to the Newport waterfront. But it is expensive to stay there. Middletown is right next to Newport and is a good option for more budget-friendly rooms. The beaches in MIddletown are beautiful, and the water is a much warmer than Acadia's.

On Monday I would not depart before 9am, as you would hit rush hour traffic, especially anywhere near Boston. If you hit Boston around 10am you should be fine.

Thanks you Lauryc. This is very insightful. We plan to do the Cliff walk and the harbor/beach etc. So, Sunday, hotel + beach and Monday cliff walk. Just realized beach visit will need immediate access to hotel. How far is Cliff walk from the harbor/beach?

You can walk to Cliff Walk from the beach. It's a 5 minute walk. But the harbor is on the other side of the city. It would be a LOT of walking. But you're on the right track. Sunday by the time you get there the parking lot could very well be full. I'd do the harbor first. You'll be hungry and that's where the restaurants are. Then hop in your car in late afternoon, do Ocean Drive, drive down Bellevue to Memorial, take a right on Memorial to Easton's Beach at the bottom of the hill, and then get to the beach around 4, when they no longer collect money and the crowd will have started to head home. Sunset here is after 7:30, so you have plenty of time to enjoy a swim and walk. Monday morning do Cliff Walk. If you're early enough you can snag a metered parking spot along Memorial Blvd.

You get to see a lot from the water.

Look for MV Temma at The Antique Yacht Collection.
