Alternative to Hanauma Bay

We wanted to head to Hanauma Bay for some snorkeling after our morning Pearl Harbor visit, but we will be there on a Tuesday (cruise) and I see that the beach is closed that day. :(

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good beach alternative for snorkeling. It would be ideal if it were somewhat close to the port of Honolulu or Waikiki.

We have our own snorkeling equipment.

Many thanks in advance!

Kaitey is right and thanks for your advice you gave me. We didn't even try to go to Hanauma Bay due to the reviews these days. We headed to Shark's Cove in North Shore and it was terrific. Were there 10 days ago. I wasn't expecting decent snorkling on Oahu and we were surprised. Even saw an eel.

I have read bad reviews of Haunama, but I'd be curious to see them.

For me, I would rearrange my schedule to be able to go to Haunama. Yes there are lots of places you can snorkle on Oahu, but Haunama is unique, you are swimming inside a volvano crater.

North Shore is far, correct? We won't have a car. It needs to be somewhere we can take the bus or a taxi.

North Shore is far, but TheBus goes there very conveniently.

we are headed back in a few weeks and would LOVE to rent a car (for the day) and take a drive to the north shore...

How far is the drive?

Paddle Addict - if you are on a cruise of the islands, I would skip snorkeling until you are on Maui or BI. there isn't any other quick and easy snorkeling from port.

I'm another Hanauma Bay fan as far as Oahu shorkeling goes.

It does feel a bit commercialized, but it's very nice and a beautiful spot.

Some say you'll see stuff off the back side of Waikiki past the Natatorium and New Otani towards the Outrigger Canoe Club, but I've never tried - we just swim there.

Sharks Cove is also worth a bus ride on the right day in my opinion.

They are on a cruise - only have Tuesday

Won't have a car, cabbing from port

Is there another snorkeling option, on a Tuesday using a cab?
