Taking Kukui Nut and ti leaf lei home to Australia...Customs

I'm just about to order a lei greeting and was going to get the Kukui Nut with ti leaf for my 7 y/old son but I know he'll want to bring it home with him...

just don't know how we'll go getting it through Australian customs.

If it's not going to get through I'll just get him the candy lei.

and after some further reading it seems as though we're not because of the seeds that may be contained in the nuts...in case anyone else is looking for the same answer.

you should have no problems taking the kukui nut with ti leaf lei back to Australia. After discussing the foresee problems with customs, my florist said, she has not seen or heard of any problems from people who ordered or have taken kukui nut and ti-leaf back to Australia.

After a week in Hawaii, you will probably place the kukui nut lei in a bag and place within your luggage, so, I don't foresee any problems, unless you have fresh fruits and/or live plants.

good luck ..........

Please don't just put it in your bag and bring it home without declaring it with Australian Customs upon your return.

It may not even be a problem and they will allow you to bring it in but there are huge fines for anyone entering Australia who does not declare items mentioned on the immigration card that you have to fill out on the plane.

Try checking with Australian Customs before you go.

Please, Please, Please do not put any nut, grass, seed product in your bag. If you must - declare it!! Remember to reason Australia has so little trouble is because our Customs/quarantine regulations.. Head to an ABC store where there are so many choices for gifts your head will spin. Have a great time - best place for a holiday..

Rest assured that I would never just place anything in my bag without declaring it!

If I can't find the answer through the Australian customs website I'll just stick with the candy lei.

Hoped you would know MamaDukeOz, just wanted anyone else reading this post from overseas to be aware that we have strict rules in regard to what can be brought into Australia.

Agree with Minergold, ABC stores have a great range of goods.

Have fun!

MamaDukeOz .... as you go thru agriculture inspection here in Hawaii, you tell the agent that you have a Kukui Nut Lei w/ti leaf.

The agriculture agent will know what a kukui nut lei is made of and how it is prepared. The kukui nut that is the lei is a hollow shell that was drilled with two holes on the top and bottom where they are stringed. There are no seeds, other than the shell it self.

Another options is the plastic Kukui nut with plastic greens. For sure no problems taking the lei into Australia.

Your options and choices ......

Good luck, "Live Aloha"

Yes, but, Betty Lou, Australia is a different country with very different laws.

If you try to sneak something in , you face a VERY big fine or jail time.

We are trying to protect our fauna/flora life.

I would ask at the Au airport as you go out of the country.

And, by the way, I LOVE the idea of the candy lei!!!!

BL, Australia is pretty strict. There are even types of wood you can't take in there.
