HNL to Las Vegas side-trip - how to arrange?

Hello, we're considering a side-trip (3 nights) to Las Vegas from HNL as we have 14 nights booked in Waikiki this Oct.

Can anyone advise a good website/travel agent and how feasible this idea might be?

Cheers

Gary, Hawaiian flys direct to/from Vegas. Just go to their website & book. Easy Peasy...

Harleynut's right - though check other carriers too. Check expedia.com and other websites (orbitz.com is one) for hotels/casinos in Vegas (or for flights as well - they also have expedia.com.au now where you can pay in AUD). Or look at what the places you may be interested in are offering directly. There are major bargains to be had in LV these days I gather, due to the poor economic conditions in the US at present.

To do it as cheaply as possible, I would plan on going during the week. (Monday-Thursday). That's when you'll find the cheapest hotel rooms and better availability at shows. Airfare is usually less then as well. Vegas usually costs twice as much on the weekends.

Gary, #3 makes a good point - largely because Vegas is only like 4 hours drive from LA the weekends are much busier. We found this on our trip in 2004, Through the week we had a great deal at the MGM Grand for three nights. When we came back after the Grand Canyon it was the weekend and we had trouble getting anything on short notice - had to pay the same rate as MGM or more for the decidedly low-rent wing of Cirucs Circus...

We like to use Orbits or priceline. Their great for checking fares against the airlines themselves. Mid week will be cheaper . October is usually great weather in Vegas. Plus our local economy would be glad to have you.

Aloha,

Vegas isn't my thing.......but I understand that coming from Sydney, it could be good fun! What about doing Vegas first-then fly Hawaiian nonstop to HNL? The you could fly home from HNL.

It seems like you'll spend an awful lot of time on planes and in airports if you come to HNL first, then 'backtrack' to Vegas, then come back to HNL. Remember you will lose a day each way traveling this way........which will reduce your time on Oahu a bunch, in addition to the aggro factor.

Famous is right - go mid-week for good hotel deals. I would take Hawaiian Airlines. It's about a 6 hour flight. Weekends do get a little crazy with the influx of folks from Souther California.

Also, Oct is a popular time due to the milder weather and also watch out for conventions in Vegas. That can drive up prices too. Like everyone else said, midweek, hotel prices can double on the weekends.

Another thing I just thought of; go to the various hotel websites (MGM, Bellagio etc.) and sign up to receive their emails for special offers. The emails will contain the discount codes for the hotel, and also usually includes throw in discounts like $50 credit to see a show or a meal or something. If you are planning on seeing a Cirque du Soleil show while there, they also have a "cirque club" that you can sign up for and receive discounts to those shows as well. Good Luck.

Gary, I will share with you what I did a couple of years back with a couple friends of mine from Australia who ask to do the same trip you are requesting.

First of all, my friends spented a couple of days in Honolulu before going to Las VEgas. I booked Vacations Hawaii Las Vegas Package to Las Vegas for less than $600.00 pp to include airfare, four nights hotel at Fremont Hotel d/t, airport transfers and 2 meal tickets per day to any Boyd's Hotel casinos for meals. This is a special chartered schedule flight that is operated by Omni Airlines for Boyd Gaming Corp. Flights are ususually full for the simple reason, that this is the only charter offered to Las Vegas as a package. I hear by April 2010, another LV charter will operate to LV from HNL. Maybe than, LV package prices will come down in price cuz of competition.

Today, VAcations Hawaii operates LV packages that includes all Boyd Hotels, New Orleans Hotel a few minutes off the strip and Station Casinos.

Give me your exact date visiting Hawaii and I will go get a schedule for you or you can go on line at www.vacationshawaii.com. to check. If you have problems, let me know. If you wait till May 2010, maybe than I can help you in one way or another.

Good luck,
