Los Angeles to Lihue

We are flying on Hawaian Air from LIh to Los Angeles. We have made separate reservations on our own to fly from LA to Detoit on NW. Will we need to get our bags in LA and then find the NW gate or is there some way we can have them transfered? We have an hour between flights. It would sure save us a lot of time not to have to retrieve bags from Hawaiian Air and recheck them with NW We've never taken a trip where we booked our flights separately but the price was great from LA to Lihue on Hawaian Air.

Looks like I goofed on this one and inserted it twice. To clarify this: flight from Det to LA and then staying overnight there. Next day LA to LIh. Return is all on same day. Lih to LA and then on to Detroit on NW.

When you initially check-in, just let the reservation clerk or porter know that you are connecting to another flight. Give them that flight #, airline , and arriving city. It should be no problem. Can you print your ticket for Northwest, so you can show the Hawaiian Airlines agent that your flight is valid and you are a passenger? They may need this for confirmation that you are actually on that flight. Once they confirm this, it should be no problem to transfer your baggage from Hawaiian to Northwest. Maybe you can even call Hawaiian Airlines ahead of time before your trip and explain your situation. I hope this helps...
