Movies to watch?

I know that there have been quite a few movies filmed on Oahu. We would love to spend the next few days watching some to get "in the mood" for our upcoming trip.

Other than Blue Hawaii which my hubby refuses to watch again, we are open for suggestions.

Anyone have a favorite they would like to share?

Jurassic Park was filmed on Kauai :)

We love Hawaii and the Hawaiians, two movies based on James Michener's classic novel, Hawaii. South Pacific, also filmed on Kauai, is another fave.

Aloha,

Donavan's Reef was filmed on Kauai.

The Duke and Lee Marvin, what a pair.

Of course , Paradise Hawaiian Style and Girls!, Girls! Girles , if your husband can handle it.

The old Magnum P.I. has some great locations on Oahu also.

Aloha

Recent movies (please note, I'm not saying all of them were particularly good movies): Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 50 First Dates, Blue Crush, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla (recent one w/Matthew Broderick). Parts of Jurassic Park were filmed on Oahu because of a hurricane that interrupted filming on Kauai. Also on Kauai, The Perfect Getaway (I'm obsessed with Timothy Olyphant in this movie - "outstanding").

From Here To Eternity...

One of the best films ever, really has wonderful Oahu footage and Oscar level performances.

The Ride...

Best Hawaii film of recent years, done by locals and true to the culture. A fantasy where a star surfer from the present ends up in Waikiki of 1911 at the Moana with Duke and his friends.

Diamond Head with Heston is also pretty cool.

Aloha,

When it gets released soon, how about "The Descendants"? It was filmed on Oahu and Kauai.

9. Re: Movies to watch?

Thanks so much for your responses.

I have just finished downloading Pearl Harbor and From Here to Eternity and am waiting for Hawaii to finish (read the book years ago and loved it, planned to bring it again for reading while on the island).

Billy I couldn't find The Hawaiians anywhere either. Maybe we can look for it in Oahu while we are there.

Will have to do the same for The Ride. It looks like a great movie and the fact that it was done by locals is really appealing.

Don't think I will be able to convince the hubby to watch an Elvis musical. That will have to be a ladies night option.

Thanks again, everyone.

I agree with Amberloo on "From Here to Eternity". Great movie. I can't believe the first time I saw it was about a year ago. "Blue Hawaii" for those that think Elvis is (possibly) a Hawaiian king (and actor). (Please excuse)

Can't see any harm seeing "Soul Surfer"....not really about Hawaii per se, but embodies spirit, faith, and the love of surfing.
