which day of the week for Pearl Harbor?

Hello,

This is the first of what I am sure will be many questions regarding our upcoming trip to Oahu. Mom (mid-70's), and 3 daughters (40's) are heading for first trip to Oahu. Daughters have been to other islands, and mom has never been to islands at all! Her birthday is Pearl Harbor day and she has always had an interest in history. We arrive late on a Friday and leave 8 days later. In early July is it better to go on a weekend morning, or weekday? Any other advice for first timers?

Do we just go and get tickets there?

Thanks in advance!

Definitely go first thing in the morning. As long as you have reservations, the day of the week may not matter. And I'd have reservations and be there in advance of the first show.

Here is a link that might help.

In early July - HIGH, high season - it may not make much difference. I would avoid Sundays. I would avoid the 4th of July.

Early mornings are great. BEAUTIFUL time to be on the water, and parking is easier.

Use the link that Jane (above) gave you and reserve your tickets in advance. They will want you present to claim the tickets an hour before your time. Take a look at "Planning Your Visit" on the left-hand side of Jane's link.

Perhaps a silly question, but do you physically have to present a printed reservation/ticket?

We will probably make our reservation after we arrive, so just thinking we would need to find somewhere to print them if necessary.

Thank you kindly.

The reserved tickets are picked up at least an hour before your tour at the visitors center. They do not mail you these tickets. Nor are they printable.

If you do not have reservations, then you just stand in line for tickets.

The reserved tickets are free, but with a $1.50 service charge for each ticket.

Do not wait until you get there to try to get reserved tickets. They may be gone.

Just pick a day now & make reservations.

You can also not make reservations & just show up & wait in line for tickets.

For reserved tickets (Make sure you select USS Arizona Memorial. You can also select the same tour with headphones, but they charge about $7.50 for them, but you can get them at the visitors center anyway, so no need to reserve the headphones in advance.)

<<We will probably make our reservation after we arrive>> NOT a good idea. If you want a time reserved - in early July - pick a day and time and book it now. Don't assume that there will be availability in the middle of the summer ... during HIGH season ... around a patriotic holiday.

Sure you can wait in line for tickets or cancellations ... but I would not want to do that. You have the opportunity to reserve a ticket - so take advantage of it.
