Reasonable hotels around $200 ??

Hi,

We're looking for a hotel down towards the Zoo/Diamond Head (hoping to get out of the noise and mayhem of the main streets in Waikiki) which is reasonably priced around the $200 mark. We found Renew, which is nearer $300 but with the recent drop in AUD this is looking increasingly expensive. (geez, HI accommodation isn't cheap !!! It better be worth it !)

Any recommendations, or should we just fork out nearer the $300 mark to avoid a holiday disappointment ?

<edit>

thanks !

Hi Ramjet,

Have you considered a condo as opposed to a hotel? We have booked one for October and you will find that they are usually cheaper than a hotel, you have more room, parking is often included free of charge and you have the option to prepare your own meals if you choose. We began our research by looking at hotels and found most in Waikiki to be rather expensive. As you mentioned with the drop in the Aussie dollar this will make them even more so for us Aussies. If you have a look at this link vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/…waikiki you will see that there are a lot to choose from. Good luck and enjoy your holiday!

thanks Benaroon,

We have indeed just tonight discovered rental condos, not sure if they'll do them for 2 nights though. We'll certainly be checking these out.

If anyone else can point us in the direction of a hotel >$250 that is worth staying at, we're still interested in all our options.

cheers

Look at the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber. It is across the street from the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and right next to the International Marketplace. Center of Waikiki and close to all shopping and restaurants. Probably over $200 a night unless you catch a special, which the do from time to time. Don't forget they all charge for taxes and fees as well, so take that into account.

Have a great trip.

Aloha,

Looks like the Park Shore is $199 plus tax in mid-August, so $227 total. It was recently renovated.

Hope you find a place that works for you.

When are you going? Prices in August are very different from prices in late September.

$300 is way too much for Renew. Keep shopping.

The preferred choice in the Diamond Head area is New Otani Kaimana -- a better-liked hotel all around. And it's usually under $200,

Your efforts to avoid the noise and mayhem of Waikiki may not be the best idea. Everyone hates the idea of that noise and mayhem before their first visit. But then many fall in love with Waikiki -- mayhem and all. True, some people prefer the Diamond Head end. But they're the minority -- a minority everyone thinks they're in until they've been there.

Point being: Consider not limiting yourself to the Diamond Head area. Holiday Inn Beachcomber is in the very area you're trying to avoid. But many people agree that location is awesome. There are many other great options under $200 in Waikiki, too.

I wouldn't bother with condo rental for only 2 nights, even if you could find one.

For that price you could get the very best room category at one of the more modest hotels (like Waikiki Sand Villa, the Breakers, Waikiki Joy, etc.)

Skip the Renew, it is way overpriced at $300. It is a $150 a night hotel that has parlayed good reviews into overcharging.

Park Shore and New Otani are good suggestions. I's also look at the Aqua Bamboo and Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. The Waikiki Parc Hotel is also in a quieter location.

Have you looked at www.airbnb.com ? I am in a one room apartment right now just a block from Waikiki beach with great security. Ok it's kind of small but it has all essential facilities, a view of the beach (binoculars would enhance it) and it's way under $100 per night. Only suitable for a max of 2 people, but there are many other options on airbnb.com

Another vote for Holiday Inn Beachcomber. It is a lovely hotel in a great location, close to Macy's, Victoria Secret, Ross Dress for Less, Cheesecake Factory etc. :) good luck!
