Airport luggage storage?

Aloha!

My friend and I will be in Honolulu for 5 nights then at the end of our trip we booked a trip to Kauia for 2 nights. We arrive back in Honolulu at 4:30pm. Our flight back to Chicago is not till 9pm. We were thinking of storign our luggage and then taking a taxi to do some shopping, sightseeing. IS there a storage at the airport? We are concerned we may not beable to cehck in our luggage early,. We are flying United.

Thanks

United allows check-in of baggage on domestic flights up to 4 hours before departure. So you can get your bags from your inter-island flight, walk them over to the United counter around 5 PM to check them in. You then have, realistically, about 2.5 yours to explore or shop, as you should be back by 7:30 or so.

Giggles, first of all, ask your inter-island carrier if they would check your luggage to your final destination. If no, claim your luggage, walk or take the "Wiki-Wiki" to United Airlines, Lobby 7 and check to see if you can check in early. The trick here maybe holding a generous tip in your hand so the porter can see it. If it works, tip, if it doesn't, just save your money and wait the few minutes before you can check in.

The question now is what you actually want to do. With less than 2.5 hours before returning to the airport (90 minutes with bags), what do you want to do, go shopping or go sightseeing.

They are two big malls, one the Pearlridge Shopping Center, west of the airport, probably less than $20 by taxi and the Ala Moana Shopping Center, east towards Waikiki, about $25 per taxi. Or hire a car to drive you around the city and Waikiki for an hour rate, less that what a one way taxi fare would cost you to Waikiki. You must decide, I can suggest.

I think you may be overestimating your free time. If your flight lands at 4:30 and you're dealing with luggage, you won't be out of the airport until 5 or 5:30. For a 9pm flight you need to be back to the airport 6:30 or 7pm. So you really only had 1-2 hours to spare.
