Girls' trip 4th of July Suggestions

Aloha travelers,

I am planning a trip for a 40th birthday celebration with a group of 10. It's my first time in Honolulu so any and all information will be greatly appreciated. We want to stay somewhere that's fun for adults i.e. does not have a lot families and children. Many of us are single, and love to hear live music and go out on the town. We want to stay in Honolulu and not be too far from beaches and nightlife. Would love suggestions for hotels. Thank you in advance! Aloha :-)

Welcome to the Oahu forum. Lots of people here will try to offer help and suggestions so that you have a great time.

First you must provide some additional information for us to be able to help you. What are your dates of travel, and what is your nightly accommodations budget? Almost all of the hotels oh Oahu are going to be in Waikiki and are pretty easily walkable to the restaurants and shopping.

There are really no "adult" hotels in Waikiki, but the number of kids around will be dependent more on when you plan to travel. But, there will be kids !! It's very much a family place.

So, help with a little more information, and we will see if we can give you some suggestions.

Aloha

Waikiki is a compact area, with a very nice set of beach bars, all have live music, but not dance music. You tend to visit all the hotel bars so it is not real important for what hotel to stay at.

July 4th is huge in Waikiki, they have a very large outrigger canoe race and pretty good fireworks, and they love parades. Its a busy time, so prices will be high.

For a girls trip the best hotels would be the Sheraton or the Outrigger. Hyatt is nice and a lot cheaper. Beachcomber has a good location and will be cheaper but does not have full ocean views. Just try to stay close to the water.

Waikiki is not just the family couples place like you get in Maui. Very good for singles, everyone is real friendly, lots of interesting people from all over the world, you can stay up past 9 and still have lots of places to go to.

I like the Outrigger Reef for location, lobby shops, restaurants, overall "Hawaiian" ambiance. I'd also look at the Hyatt. In a different part of Waikiki you might check The Modern, it's a bit out-of-the-way for some but getting good comments lately and sounds perhaps more like the 'vibe' you are seeking?

During the July 4th holiday almost every place you stay on Oahu will be crawling with kids. Prime time season for families.

Welcome to TripAdvisor, Jenn! You are wise to be planning now.

Understand that, for the most part, hotel rooms on Oahu (per fire code) can accomodate only 4 people. Condos or suites ... or perhaps some very large rooms ... can accomodate more.

Please tell us how many nights you plan to stay.

Finding somewhere fun for adults is not difficult! But we do need to know what you are looking for in a hotel. Beach front? Large pool? Also what would be the nightly accomodations budget PER ROOM. This will help us with recommendations.

My gut feeling is ... the Hyatt for location and large rooms. Across the street from the beach. But their parking fee and resort fee are very high. Second "gut feeling" is the Embassy Suites. About 1/2 block from the beach - excellent and fun location.

And yes - there will be kids. But some hotels are kid-magnets, and we can steer you away from them.
