In the last link, Restaurants Tourists Usually Skip, hits on the great restaurants near Ala Moana Mall, which is closer than the far end of Waikiki.

The Amberloo and Food topic talks about the McCully Shopping Center that has a bunch of great places.

Is there a specific kind of food you'd like?

Wailana is just a coffee shop known for its breakfasts. Doesn't specialize in the types of food you mentioned. If you go there for breakfast, go early as it gets crowded and lines will form out the door. There is really no place to sit & wait for seating. They are open 24 hours.

Find your way to Me Korean BBQ. It's plate lunch style, but serves until 9:00PM.

Walkable for us easily, but you'll have to decide that for yourselves.
