We have travelled to Oahu with three young kids. Check out Waikiki Beach Rentals at the Ilikai in one of the Condos. We have stayed in 1502 and it would be ideal for your situation. Fly Hawaiian out of BNE direct to HNL. You'll love it all it is a truly great part of the world.

Lenny, welcome to the TripAdvisor Oahu Forum.

At the right of the screen are a lot of Frequently Asked Questions (Top Questions) about Oahu and Honolulu.

I would read through several of those and maybe get a Hawaii guidebook from the library and read up a bit and see what interests you. Everyone has different likes so it is hard to give specific advice with out knowing more about you and you knowing more about the available sights would make for a better conversation.

Hotels in Honolulu can be hit and miss, many are quite old and ugly, make sure you check the photos on Tripadvisor. Not many hotels are suited for a young family - especially if you want separate rooms for you and your children.

I rented a condo through Captain Cook Vacation Rentals at the Waikiki Park Heights (1707); it will fit 3 fine, but maybe a tad small for your family. Check Captain Cook's website and you'll find other units that maybe more suitable.

Hi! Please tell us when you plan to come ... and for how many nights.

1) You'll need to establish a nightly accommodations budget in US dollars before digging into hotels/resorts/condos.

2) You also need to establish whether you will be renting a car. Public transportation is OK within the City of Honolulu, but if you want to explore - you'll want a car. With little ones that age ... I would always rent a car.

3) Do you have a good map of the Island of Oahu? A good map of Honolulu? You'll want one before settling on accommodations. Get some perspective.

4) Only you know what is a "must-do" in your estimation. If you don't have a travel guidebook for Honolulu or Oahu in general - that would be a priority with the map.

5) Reading down through the Island of Oahu Forum (which includes the Honolulu threads) will provide you with excellent information. Also, to the right-hand side of the page are "Top Questions."

Feel free to come back to us as your planning progresses.

When you ask for hotel recommendations, it's really helpful for us to have a general price range you want to spend. Any kind of amenities you need (kitchenette, pool, etc.). And if you definitely want a hotel or you'd consider an apartment/condo?
