Locals Please Help

Hi everyone,

I will be staying at Waikiku from AUG 15 - 23rd with my Husband.

I was hoping you could help me with an odd request. It will be the anniversary of my father in law's passing while we are away and I wanted to surprise my husband with a small memorial.

Do you have any ideas of local traditions of places we could go?

Any help would be much appreciated. My father in law loved Hawaii and the beach.

thank you

Yep paddling out. Everyone makes a circle. Say a prayer, spread some ashes(if you have them). Place a lei or two in the ocean. Very emotional and moving ordeal.

The outrigger canoe memorial is a wonderful, albeit somber event. A great testament to a life well-lived. Just moving.

I was going to suggest a visit to the chapel at Punchbowl or the Atherton Chapel at Central Union Church. They are two very moving places.

We lost our first pregnancy at 20wks in Oahu. Our first visit back 6 years later we bought a small lei that we walked to the end of the jetty out front of The Outrigger Reef and floated out to sea after saying a few words. On our subsequent visits we do the same thing.

When we go to the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor we bring a lei and drop the flowers into the water.

We always cut the string and drop the flowers, not the entire lei. Sea turtles and other marine wildlife will eat lei and the string can injure or kill them.
