airport to Waikiki without a car

My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 young teens) will be landing at HNL around 5 pm and will be staying 2 nights in Waikiki before heading to the Big Island. We are not renting a car for those 2 days / nights. We'll take the bus from our hotel to Pearl Harbor and whatever else we do those couple of days. My question is: what is the best way to get from the airport to our hotel initially? We'll have a few suitcases and smaller bags, but not a lot of luggage. We're leaning towards the bus, but is a taxi an easier but still cost effective option?

Taxi cabs are readily available and will cost you $35 to $40 plus tip depending on what hotel you are staying in. You can not take suitcases on the bus.

Just step outside of the luggage claim area and grab a cab. There is a line of them (all sizes) and an attendant to help you. Cabs are more cost-effective than a shuttle with 4 people - and they are by far the quickest and easiest way to get to Waikiki.

For the public bus - you have to be able to put your suitcase on your lap or completely under your seat. The buses are generally crowded, and it would be slow-going to Waikiki ... not the best after a long flight.

Yes agreeing with the posts above. You just want to grab a taxi. The Bus doesn't work with multiple luggage. There's also shuttles but since they are priced per person, with 4 traveling together, a taxi is the most cost effective (quickest, most convenient).

Try 'Über' as mentioned in an earlier thread. More and more people love Uber. You can get the uber app and the process is relatively easy.

UBER & LYFT are up & running in Honolulu, HOWEVER, they do not have many drivers, and they have a hard time picking up at Honolulu International Airport ( they have to sneak in)
