Sunset Dinner Cruise Tips?

Does anyone have any advice on sunset cruises? I've heard that the food isn't great, but worth the sights of the lights of Honolulu? What about the sunset? Sunrise?

Are there cruises with just cocktails that anyone can recommend? I've only heard of 2 companies- Navatek and Star of Honolulu. Compare and contrast?

Thanks!

There are several boats that just beach on Waikiki that offer sunset cocktail cruises. These are way smaller than the large boats you mentioned, and much cheaper. I think the cocktail cruises are definitely the way to go. My favorite was a white boat with blue and white sails that was smaller than the others on Waikiki and didn't try to force a party atmosphere like some seem to.

I went on the Outrigger Catamaran sunset cruise last year and really enjoyed it. It's about $35 and includes all drinks. There were only about 20 people on the boat that evening and it was very relaxing and not a "party" atmosphere, but a relaxed mood and everyone chatting and drinking and enjoying the beautiful sunset. There are others on Waikiki that do the same thing, but some of the boats are more party types. I liked the relaxed mood on the Outrigger. It is located at the Outrigger Reef. Just walk along Waikiki or google Waikiki Sunset Cruises and check out the different cruises.

I did the Star of Honolulu sunset dinner cruise 12mths ago. I really enjoyed it. The food was really good - the best lobster I have ever had, and the best cocktails that I had the whole trip. They also put on some cultural entertainment after the dinner. The staff were excellent also. Beautiful sunset!

There were a few boats out on the water with us, i would agree with the previous post in recommending the Outrigger catamarane. Although I haven't been on it, it came pretty close to us - and it looked like heaps of fun. I would seriously consider doing this cruise next time I go to Hawaii for something a little different.

I was recently on Oahu, and took the Star Sunset Dinner Cruise. Do not waste your money, it was a major disappointment. The entertainment was ok, but the food was terrible and the air conditioning in the dining room was set so low it was uncomfortably cold.

Hi G T Knowitall

We booked a Navatek Sunset cruise whilst on our honeymoon! It depends what you are looking for on the cruise. Perhaps I had high expectations, but I was somewhat disappointed with it! I assumed that it would be nice and romantic, on seperate tables for the meal, and then a nice dance in the evening! Instead the whole boat was just a pile of long giant tables filing up the room. Now, I don't have a problem with socialising, but sitting next to strangers on what I thought was going to be a nice romantic evening with my new husband, was somewhat disappointing! However, being able to watch the sunset from out to sea looking back at Waikiki was unbelievably beautiful!!!! It certainly made up for my slight disappointment, so it definately worth it if thats your main reason for the cruise (as opposed to being all romantic and mooshy) haha

Maybe I was just being Niave and shouldn't have expected so much! We went back to Hawaii in September last year for our 5th Anniversary and I was looking into doing something special as a surprise for hubby and after investigation, there are some FANTASTIC cruises available. Of course, some are quite pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for. Good luck with whatever you decide.
