Arnica Fire Update

Here is a link to status of the Arnica Fire: http://inciweb.org/incident/1901/

The road between West Thumb and Fishing Bridge was closed yesterday afternoon, but it looks like it is currently open. However, if you're in the area, or going to be, keep checking as the status continues to change frequently.

We were there a few days ago, from Grant Village you could see the flames at night. The smoke was pretty thick and combines with the fires At Tetons made visibility poor on hikes in the Tetons yesterday until the wind got stonger.

Road closure was a problem with other closer in Norris area.

Any updates on the fire????

From what I have been reading on major news websites the road between West Thumb and Fishing Bridge is still closed.

Have they reopened the Norris to Canyon route????

The last I heard - on tonight's news- is that both roads are still closed. There's been no damage to structures, but they're running the sprinklers in Lake Village full-time to protect the buildings there.

There's a storm front coming in tonight, and they hope that the rain and/or snow, along with the lower temps and reduced winds will help the firefighters.

Here's today's update on the fire: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/article/9680/

Sounds like the rain/snow is really helping. They're working to try and get the road opened again between Bridge Bay and West Thumb.

Here is the latest on the road closure: The road between Lake and West Thumb will be open for short periods each day beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1 to allow for public travel through the 2 miles of road affected by the Arnica Fire. There will be three opportunities each day as follows:

• 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

• Noon to 1:00 p.m.

• 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

There will be a pilot car and a set number of cars will be able to move through at a time so be ready to roll.

It must be hard to get to or out of north end of the park with the fire and the other road closed near Madison? What do people do? Glad we got south before it caused the closure.
