Itinerary Help for July, Including Over 4th of July

We are picking up an RV in Bozeman on the afternoon of Saturday, July 2nd. We need to be back in Bozeman by Wednesday night (the 6th) in order to return the RV early Thursday morning. I know we have limited time and am trying to decide the best way to see Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons without spending the whole time in the car. I think the RV park is booked for the time we're there, so looking to find specific campgrounds that would make the most sense to see the best sites, but again without driving all day. We've also heard that it would be nice to spend July 4th in Cody to see the rodeo, museum, fireworks, etc. Therefore, would probably spend the day and night somewhere in Cody on the 4th. Any thoughts on what our best route should be, or where would make the best sense to stay for logistical purposes? We're a family of four--2 adults, 2 children (11 and 9). Thanks!

You have set yourself a challenging task: see Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Cody in just a few days, but not spend too much time in your car.

July 2 (afternoon) - pick up your RV in Bozeman; plan to stay in West Yellowstone or Gardiner that night.

July 3 - travel through YNP during the day and stay near the east entrance (or in Cody).

July 4 - drive to Cody that morning; see museums, rodeo, fireworks. Stay in Cody that night.

July 5 - drive through YNP to GTNP and stay in Jackson that night.

July 6 - drive through GTNP and then into YNP to Bozeman and arrive that evening.

Now, if all that works for you and seems to make sense, then have a look at a YNP map and plan to see as much as you can in three different routes on three different days. Here's maps of the park:

Yellowstone map: yellowstonenationalpark.com/images/YELLmap1.…

zoom map nps.gov/pwr/customcf/apps/maps/showmap.cfm…

Mileage map of Yellowstone: http://www.yellowstone.ws/map.html

Good luck.

Here is a website for the must sees in Yellowstone-

www.yellowstone.net/topten

Also if you are going to the rodeo in Cody on the 4th of July then make reservations ASAP- it is the Cody Stampede.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the tips! It does seem like we have a big challenge ahead of us. I've thought about skipping the Grand Tetons, but others say it may be worth the extra drive since we'll be so close...
