“ 1 night ”

Mar 08, 2012, 12:35 PM

We are visiting Yellowstone in august for about 10 days, this includes 1 night stay at Signal Mountain Lodge. We have never traveled to either park before, so I was wondering how best to utilize our time in GTNP. Our itinerary is as follows: fly into Bozeman, drive to OF for 2 nights, on our 3rd day is when we leave yellowstone, and go to Signal Mountain. So suggestions are appreciated for us leaving yellowstone at a very early hour and traveling to signal mountain....what to see along the way , that whole day, and on the way back to yellowstone the next day. We are then re entering yellowstone for 2 nights lake, 2 nights roosevelt, then out north to Bozeman again. Thanks!!

The day you leave Old Faithful, you don't really need to leave *very early*. You will head toward West Thumb. You can stop at Keppler Cascades which is a short distance out of Old Faithful, then you cross the Continental Divide twice, then drop down in to West Thumb area. You can stop here today, or do this coming back.

You might want to get Janet Chapple's Yellowstone Treasures if we haven't already nagged you about that.

Sorry, can't help south of West Thumb or in to Grand Teton as I rarely get down in that area.

Coming back, you will pick up West Thumb if you didn't do that on your way down, then drive beside the lake. There are several pull-offs to view the Lake, then after checking in you will probably have time to get up to Fishing Bridge and look for wildlife and possibly either a bit out the east entrance road to Mary's Bay looking for wildlife or up into Hayden Valley.
