East Yellowstone

We are going to Yellowstone next week. We were planning to stay 4 nights in West Yellowstone and then 4 in Gardiner. Should we consider changing it up a bit and staying 2 of the nights in East Yellowstone? If so, any suggesting, near the park - not Cody, as to where to stay?

there really isn't anything close as far as a town at the east entrance except Cody, and it doesn't work very well to travel back & forth from. The North East Entrance has Cooke City & Silver Gate, but I don't know that it would enough difference from Gardiner to get lodging at this late date. If you could get in the park- Lake or Canyon, but that may be tough to get- you can always keep trying Xanterra for cancellations.

Outside the E gate on the way to Cody, there are a lot of guest ranches that allow night by night stays. You may want to research staying at one of them. Obviously, being W of Cody, they are closer to the gate.

I agree with thbergs, but in case you want to explore what lodging is available east of Yellowstone, between Cody and the park:

Click on "map" for an idea of where these places are located. Photos are also on the site.

Thanks for the help. We changed the trip up and are now staying 3 nights in West Yellowstone, 3 in East Yellowstone and the last 2 in Gardiner. I found a very interesting spot in East (Black Creek Lodge) at the website above.
