Travelling from Jackson hole wyoming to Grnat village

We are flying in to Jackson Wyoming from western New york state in July this year (July 2013). As we are staying in Grant village for the duration off our visit, I wish to know:

1: whether there is a regular bus service or taxi service to take the visitors from the Jackson airport to Grant village Lodge ?

2: If such service is not available, approximately how far is it from Jackson to Grant village?

I prefer to go by bus and not drive if there is choice.

I would appreciate any information you can provide to assist me in this regard.

sincerely.

M. Pai

Grant Village can be about 1.5 hours from Jackson. There is no routine service between the airport and Yellowstone. Taxis typically will not go into the park b/c the NP permit to transport passengers is cost prohibitive.

Within Yellowstone, there is the Linx service. Below is a link to show the 2012 service. The 2013 service has yet to come out. There are only 2 stops each day at each location so its not a great method IMHO to tour the park.

Are you going to have transportation in Yellowstone? Grant village is not the most central location to see the park.

A rental car is the best way to see Yellowstone National Park. Tours are available, but you'll need to make arrangements. The problem is, what do you do, where do you go, once the tour is over? To your room? You'll have many daylight hours to explore the park and you'll find that, like most of us, sitting at a lodge does not use your time well in this vast park.

With a car, you can return to areas already seen and areas that you'll not see on the tours. And can get up early or stay until dusk at the Lamar and Hayden Valleys watching for wildlife.

Driving in the park is pretty simple, with one major figure 8 road leading to most of the major sights. And the road also offers many viewpoints, turnouts, picnic areas, well worth your time.

As has been said, Grant Village is not a good location, it's far from just about all of the major sights.

To get an idea of the road "system", see this interactive map; blow it up for details of each village. Mileages are shown between major points. It's very useful in planning your Yellowstone adventure.

One step at a time ...

Okay, you have your lodging arranged. Good, that is step one.

Here is step two, taken from voyaging's post above: "A rental car is the best way to see Yellowstone National Park." That is the next step for you to work on.

Based on Vadimash's estimate, round trip taxi from Jackson to Grant & back would set you back $350.00 + tips. You can get an economy rental car for $50-70.00/day depending on the company and any discounts you can find. You can get a lot of rental car days for what you would pay for a taxi!! The distance is about 70 miles one way.

As previous posters have said, a car is the best way to see YNP. We've stayed at Grant and there isn't much to do or see there.
