Best areas on loop to stay at hotel

Hi. We will be at YNP for 3 nights/4 days in late June/early July 2014. Is it best to pick 3 separate lodgings for each night to make the best use of time, and least backtracking? We'd love to stay at Old Faithful Inn and possibly Roosevelt Cabins and wonder if we should also stay in Canyon area, or just do maybe 1 night at OF and 2 nights at Roosevelt. Thanks so much for any advice!

I wouldn't choose 3 different lodging locations for a short stay such as yours - that's a lot of packing and moving.

I like your choices of OF and Roosevelt. The night at OF positions you well to explore the thermal areas along the southern and SW areas of the park. Roosevelt isn't quite as "central" as Canyon - but is a lot less congested, and is still a good base for exploring the northern and eastern sides of the "Figure 8" loop.

Xanterra opens its reservations for next year this Wed., May 1st. Since both OF and Roosevelt are quite popular locations, it would be a good idea to contact them as soon as you can. Their cancellation policy is quite liberal, so if you change your mind later on, you can change locations pretty easily - based on availability.

Good Luck - and Have a fun trip!

We are entering @ NE entrance as we'll be coming from Black Hills. Will be leaving at the location that takes us down to head next to SLC, Utah. Thanks for input! Will stick with 2 @ Roosevelt and 1 at OF. Already set a reminder for 10am ET this Wed. But from what I see on the forums that's no guarantee :(

Even if you don't get what you want right on the day, things will shift around a lot in a year.

good choices, and yes, if you don't get exactly what you want, monitor the website as people cancel all the time! Good luck!
