Cody-Ch. Joseph-Beartooth-Gardiner in one day?

Can this be done in one day with time for checking out scenic overlooks, stopping for a picnic lunch, sites along the way etc?

Leave Cody and take the Chief Joseph to Beartooth. Travel east on Beartooth to Rock Creek Vista and then turn around. Enter Yellowstone thru the NE entrance and make our way to Gardiner for overnight.

Yes you can. We even ran in to road construction and still got to Roosevelt by mid afternoon. I'd plan for the whole day, you never know how many times you'll stop. Keep in mind your only lunch options will be in Cooke city or Silver Gate. Eating out of your cooler might be best so you're not rushed.

There are nice places in both Silver Gate and Cooke City for lunch. After all that driving, getting out, stretching your legs and grabbing lunch will probably be welcome. Keep the time in mind, as it is a two hour drive from either of those towns to Gardiner even without stops, and you want to leave plenty of time for stopping to view the animals and sights across the north part of YNP. You want to get to Gardiner before dark, as driving after dark becomes dangerous to man and beast alike.

ENJOY!
