After camping/hiking in park a couple times every month May-October, May has most definitely the most bears close to the trails & roads.

Also the most big horns & moose by the roads. No mosquitoes or biting flies.

Very little traffic and no crowds.

Trails were still quite wet & I had several pairs of boots/trailrunners. Snow too deep to hike any of the high peaks.

Below freezing cold in the early mornings but warm sleeping with proper bedding/bags.

Only ate (oops... make that tried to eat LOL!) meal out once at Fishing Bridge general store counter- the worst meal I have ever been served- *raw* fish sandwich- sent it back & left without eating.

Mammoth CG is my least favorite in the park- traffic noise & even tho it's first come/first serve, hosts won't let you pick your own site & were not friendly like other campground workers

thanks for the reports- you always have great info. Disappointed in Fishing Bridge food- usually one of my favorites :( Let's hope they got better after that!

Awesome!! Great wildlife list. I love that road out the back of Red Lodge. A great aunt and uncle had a cabin years ago nr Nye.

Sorry too about FB General Store. I stopped there for lunch and started developing my mild addiction to their black bean burgers. Yum.

Sounds like a great trip! I will join the club, I also love that road out of Red Lodge. We had a house rented last fall outside of Fishtail and loved it. Had to eat at the Grizzly Bar of course! Defines the middle of nowhere. I should try and get back when it's full of flowers!

Pam, we buy the same black bean burgers they use from costco so I thought I'd order something unique, fish, which I rarely do... big mistake! LOL

It was beginning of season & probably new workers cooking (or perhaps NOT cooking LOL)....

Oh! I didn't know they were from Costco! They are marked vegan on the menu and I did not think any of Costco's were vegan. I will have to look next time I make a run to the nearest Costco!
