6 nights in yellowstone

Hi all. We are hoping to fly into jackson and spend 4 nights there, and include teton in that time,

The accomodation in yellowstone available are 2 nights OF Lodge then next 2 at Lakeside cabins and then 2 nights at Mammoth hotel. Is this spread out enough in the park for us to see most things.

We will be returning to Jackson for our trip home, what would you folk suggest for us to see after leaving Mammoth and on our way back to jackson. thanks caz

Hi Caz.

Sounds almost perfect as far as an even spread of the park goes, except you'll want to tinker with the order a bit as Mammoth is not close at all to the Jackson airport.

If you can still play around, I would suggest this order:

Arrival night in Jackson

2 nights at OF

2 nights at Mammoth

2 nights at Lake

Finish up back at Jackson or a lodge in the Tetons to be near the airport again.

OK.....I was worried that it was this year since there is road construction that can significantly affect whether or not lodging choices flow nicely.

Next spring/early summer I would try to move your lodging around as bardgirl suggests. If you're interested in wildlife and want to be closer to Lamar Valley, I'd exchange the Mammoth lodging with Roosevelt. If nothing is available at Roosevelt, Mammoth works out just fine.

You could leave by the NE entrance to drive Beartooth out to Rock Creek Vista, retrace your route almost back to Cooke City and take Chief Joseph Scenic Byway to Cody. Overnight there. The next day re-enter Yellowstone thru the East entrance, then go south when you get to the Loop Road and exit the South entrance back to Jackson.

If you do decide to try and change your reservations to Bardgirls' suggestions, then you could perhaps put the overnight in Cody between Mammoth and Lake, so you would do Beartooth, overnight Cody, reenter Yellowstone and then have an overnight at Lake. So OF, OF, Mammoth, Mammoth, Cody, Lake, Lake, Jackson.

If you have only six nights in YNP, you might wish you kept all those reservations rather than split time out of the park when you look back on your trip. Cody is interesting but YNP is world class!

ENJOY!

I second D0bby's suggestion, which allows you to experience the Beartooth Highway and stay overnight in Cody, where you can get a good meal and take in the evening rodeo before continuing on to Jackson Hole the next day. And you'll still get plenty of time in Yellowstone.

I agree re: spending time in Cody.

Two Great Museums while visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

Cody, WY Buffalo Bill Center of the West A fascinating world class complex (with cafeteria). Plan on at least three hours. For all ages. http://www.bbhc.org/home/

Jackson, WY National Museum of Wildlife Art A remarkable museum focusing on western art of all kinds. Just north of Jackson. http://www.wildlifeart.org/
