Any experts out there on June Lakes?

We plan on spending a couple of hours at June Lake on our drive from Death Valley to Yosemite.

First question is is there a good place to grab some sandwiches for a picnic lunch either in June Lake or outside before we arrive?

Next question, where can we pick up bait and a fishing license?

Any spots more photogenic than others? Best places to fish?

Any help would be most appreciated.

I don't have any answers to your questions but you might try looking at both http://junelakeloop.com/ and http://junelakeloop.org/ to see if there are any answers there, and http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fishing/ for questions about fishing licenses.

There are two great places in Bishop on your way to pick up sandwiches:

#1 Great Basin Bakery - On Lagoon just off Main St

Great sandwiches and baked goods including cookies which you must get as a follow up to their great sandwiches

#2 Erik Schat's on Main

Pretty much all tourists stop in here and for good reason. Great sandwiches and baked goods.

Get your fishing licenses on-line before you leave. Obtaining out-of-state short-term licenses at stores can be challenging.

Wow eastern sierra is a fishing mecca I cannot imagine having a hard time finding a place to get a fishing license even out of state.

There's lots of photogenic spots. You can get beautiful reflections of the Lake from the little park in town. Or you can drive around the June Lake Loop for plenty of photo ops.

Thank you for your help. I'm glad we've decided on spending a couple hours at June Lake. This will be a very busy vacation and it'll be nice to spend a little time relaxing.

Suzie, thanks for the suggestions for food. While we aren't "foodies", I do enjoy a good meal, especially on vacation. This trip is going to be a whole lot of sandwiches and fast food....glad to know there is someplace to get a really good sandwich.
