Dress for Ahwahnee dinner

Have been to many National park lodges, and have never encountered a dining room with a strict dress code. I realize my husband and boys will need to wear long pants and a collared shirt. Are dress shoes necessary? will converse work for boys? What are the ladies wearing? Sundresses casual or actual dinner dresses and heels? Will a long black skirt and a tee shirt work?

After a week camping and hiking it will seem strange to get dressed up.

I have dined there and everything you mention above covers what you will see in terms of people dining at the Ahwahnee. Breakfast and Lunch is more casual wear than dinner. People do tend to take some care when going to their one nice dinner in the park - but its still California business casual style.

The Ahwahnee web site gives a good description of exactly what you are thinking of wearing.

As long as the Converse are clean ....and in good condition....they will work fine....

Black Skirt and tee will work - fine.....

"Sundresses casual or actual dinner dresses and heels"

Just a general note about clothing and temperatures - even in the summertime, it can get chilly in Yosemite once the sun goes down. Average lows in Yosemite Valley are in the 50s. I didn't see what time of year you will be visiting, but since you will be camping, my guess is summer, and coming from LV, temps in the 50s and 60s will probably seem downright frigid. So, this is the long way of saying "bring a sweater" :-) I don't think you'll want to be out and about after dark in just a sundress unless night temperatures are warmer than usual.

Here is a link with a table showing average temperatures by month:

Thank you for your replies. We will be there in 2 weeks so I will pack a sweater, although cooler temps will feel great.

We ate at the Ahwahnee on Friday evening (good meal) and dress varied. Saw people in jeans but no t-shirts or shorts. People did have on athletic shoes. Heard they turned someone away who had on a t-shirt. The dining room is lovely, and we had a seat by the window. Enjoy!
