Yosemite Oct 6-8 - Tenya Lodge

We have reservations for the Lodge at Falls Oct 6-8. Well unfortunately this is not going to happen. We have entertained the idea of still going and driving through the park on the state highways. The Tenya lodge also ran by the DNC is still open since it is located outside of the park. Considering changing our reservations to there. Would there be much to do in this area? Or would we be better staying outside the park at a hotel on 120 if we decide to go anyways?

Consider starting with this link:http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g61000-c201460/Yosemite-National-Park:California:Alternate.Plans.During.Shutdown.html

Tenaya Lodge is close to bass Lake which can be a nice area to visit. Sugar pine railroad is so very close by http://www.ymsprr.com

The Sierra scenic Vista byway is also an interesting area to explore. It's on federal land, but I suspect many of the roads are open still. I would recommend calling the Oakhurst visitor center (see linked article) for more information. Don't rely on your gps for the byway.

Tenaya Lodge also tends to have its own activities so you might call the lodge itself and see what they have to offer.

Hope that gets you started!

Depends on what you want to do. Relax and maybe find a short trail? Sure. It's not Yosemite, to be sure. What would you do if you stayed on Hwy. 120 outside the park? Drive all the way through the park over Tioga Pass and back? If you wanted to do that and see anything on the other side (e.g., Mono Lake, Bodie State Park), I'd stay at least one night in Lee Vining or Mammoth Lakes. A more scenic area than Bass Lake and Hwy. 41, IMHO. But more driving for you. Not sure where you'd be driving from and where you'd go afterwards.

Have you considered the area around Calaveras Big Trees State Park, north of Yosemite? State parks are open. You'd at least see Sierra redwoods there. Could also visit Columbia State Historic Park. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=551 http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=552
