Evergreen Lodge

Hi I would like some advice on Evergreen Lodge. We would be travelling from San Francisco and spending two days before travelling on down the coast. There are not a lot of options left inside the park and evergreen seemed to suit our needs. The forum occasionally mentions the forest fire but recent posts don't mention it? In the forums opinion would it spoil the trip as the hiking options mentioned on their website do they pass through all the devastation? Thanks

Evergreen Lodge is outside the valley floor

The hiking options you read about for Yosemite valley do not involve the burn areas, except for the Hetch Hetchy trails.

I think the Self-Directed Hiking mentioned on their website does go through entirely through the burn areas.

"Self-Directed Hiking opportunities abound, with the 4-mile round trip to booming Wapama Falls at nearby Hetch Hetchy a perennial guest favorite. The Preston Falls Trail, up to 4 miles each way, is another great nearby choice, as is the trail to secluded Carlon Falls. And of course, there is wonderful hiking and sightseeing in Yosemite Valley. "

There is plenty of other hiking around in uninvolved areas, it just means driving to a trailhead. I'm sure the Lodge can also give you alternate hiking advice.

It also deserves recognition that Evergreen Lodge was saved by the action of the firefighters. It would certainly have burned to the ground otherwise.

It's a nice property. It's too bad there aren't more accommodations like this within the park on the valley floor. Oh well.
