Renting a car in Bluefields and driving cross country

Ok so we want to drive from Bluefields to San Juan del Sur along the Costa Rican border. Is this even possible? If not what route is recommended? Follow the Rio Escondido? ALSO how do we rent a car on the Caribbean side. We are going to be coming in from Corn Islands to Bluefields. Can't find a rental car place in BF...suggestions? We're going in February.

this is not possible. Technically, there are no roads that connect Bluefields to the other side of the country. Im not even sure if you can rent a car in Bluefields...but maybe you can for local travel i guess.

There is a dirt road that leads to Nueva Guinea and from there you can take roads to the pacific side, but the road is terrible, and may not actually exist in some sections.

To get to/from Bluefields, if you dont fly, everyone takes the boats down the river to El Rama. Its possible to ferry a car, but its expensive, and im not sure why you would need a car in bluefields.

There are also no roads in the southeastern part, known as the indio-maiz reserve. The only way to travel to the towns down there is by boat up the rio san juan on the costa rican border.

PS. at the risk of sounding like a condescending jerk.....you may want to consult a map of the area, or do some research on that area before travelling just so you dont end up in a situation you arent prepared for.

You can drive from Pearl Lagoon, but even then, it's hours and hours along dirt roads with no signs. Good luck with that. And there are no rental car places. Good luck with that, too. Even if there were, you would still have the problem with returning the vehicle. Either you would have to return the vehicle to pearl lagoon or take someone with you who could do just that.

Good luck.
