Getting to Little Corn

We are planning a trip to Little Corn sometime this spring (flexible dates). I see that the flight from Managua to the Corn Islands leaves at 6 am & 2 pm. Is it worth it to spend ~$1300 to fly into Managua in time to catch the 2 pm flight to Corn Island? Or to spend ~$1100 for the flight to Managua that arrives later in the day, stay in Managua for the night, and catch the 6 am to Corn Islands?

Is there a price or weather difference to go in March vs. April? We're just having a hard time figuring out what is our best bet, and which is most economic. Obviously this is our first trip to the Islands ;)

Okay, it looks like we can save at least $130 by taking a later flight to Managua and spending the night there in a hotel. Has anyone done it this way?

You will spent $100 to stay at the Best Western across the street form the airport to be able to catch the morning flight to Corn island

Excellent, that's what I found too. I was looking for a cheaper hotel but in order to have reliable transportation to and from the airport, it looks like the BW might be the best bet.

I found the flight from Managua to Big Corn for $165 a piece, round trip. It's through La Costena airlines and leaves twice a day.

we did exactly this - late arrival Managua, overnight at the Best Western (you could walk to it from the airport, it's literally across the street - but they pick you up), and took the 06:00 AM flight with la Costena to Corn Island and the noon Panga Boat to Little Corn.

Best Western was USD 93.15 for the night, all in. La Costena we booked directly with jcaballero@lacostena.com.ni

While waiting for the Panga Boat on Corn Island, there's only time for a beer - food will take an hour or more, we found......

So I've read that passengers on the La Costena flights are limited to 30 lbs. luggage each. Is there also a size restriction? What type of bags are best, just daypacks or can you fit a framed backpack?

Checked baggage free allowance

1 piece with maximum weight of 30 pounds / 13 kgs

Maximum size: 45 linear inches / 114 cm. (length + height + width)

check here: www.lacostena.com.ni/baggage_policy.php

they weigh you and your carry on as well -:)

if you go on to little Corn, soft luggage is best. framed backpack will be no problem.
