Wind on. LCI

Hello,

I was hoping an LCI traveller/expert could advise on what side of the island is the windiest?

We are thinking of travelling there in February of 2015.

Many thanks!

The west side has no wind, the east side has a constant breeze.

Stayed on LCI, east side, at LCI B&B in late June. Cabinas right on the beach with fans but no AC and we were comfortable there.

Thanks so much. We are going to book in to Yemaya for February 2015. I have no idea which side it is on!

@ hottaco Yemaya is an amazing spot, and is on the north end of the island. The winds in this part of the Caribbean do come from the east most of the year, although, like anywhere, they vary. WInter months winds here sometimes also shift to the North. From either of those directions, Yemaya picks up the breeze very nicely.

@aap82821 As mentioned above, the winds do typically come from the east. But much of the year they are strong enough to be felt on the west side of the island as well. Anything from the North or South are also felt on the West side. And today, we're enjoying a very nice West breeze. Like anywhere, weather is variable, and sometimes, although not often, it's even dead calm all around. Fickle, that nature!

TranquiloJohn thanks so much for the input. Just getting flights from Alberta figured then will be booking. By the looks of it, we will land in Managua around 9 pm, so will need to overnight there. Any suggestions on where to stay?

@ hottaco

Happy to help.

There are 2 decent hotels right near the airport:

Best Western/Las Mercedes, which is directly across from the airport, so you can literally cross the road by foot to get to it.

The other, Camino Real, is a short 2 minute ride by free shuttle.

I stay there whenever I have to stop over in Managua. Very nice restaurant (great breakfast and lunch buffets). Large, clean, pool and patio area. Room recently renovated with all the basic amenities.

If you ask for the "Beach & Bungalow" Rate, it's about $75, plus taxes, night. $85 with the breakfast included.

Make sure to arrange for the shuttle when you reserve.
