Which island to visit?

We are staying on Denarau Island in a couple of months and are aware you can take a day trip out to the islands - my question is; Which is the best island to visit for a few hours - there seems little information on details of the islands?

I think that a 'must do' trip is on the Seaspray.

It is a full day aboard a sailing ship with lunch and all beer, wine and soft drink included. You will visit a village where you will have a kava ceremony and the villagers will put on a market for you. Then it is off to Modriki island for some snorkelling. This is the island that they filmed Castaway on. Best snorkelling I have come across in Fiji so far.

The Seaspray leaves from Mana Island, so you will see some of the other islands such as Bounty and Treasure on your way out in the big cat.

Also here are some things to do and see around Nadi:

Garden of the Sleeping Giant: Located about half and hour from Nadi, The Garden of Sleeping Giant is a beautiful orchid range started in 1977 by the late Raymond Burr, star of Perry Mason and Ironside.

Hot Mud Pools: The hot mud pools are located a few hundred meters from the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. This is a bit of an adventure as these pools are digged right into the ground. It's totally natural, there are no restaurants, no concrete pathway, no infrastructures except for a shower/toilet.

Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple: The Sri Siva Subramaniya temple is a Hindu temple in Nadi. It is at the southern end of the main road through Nadi. It is the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere.

Nadi Markets: Located one block south of Nadi Main Street, the Nadi Market offers a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and other produce. One whole section of the market, about thirty stalls, is devoted to just one product: kava

Jet Boat Ride: Jet Fiji offers exciting 30 minute jet boat rides on the Nadi River and through mangrove swamps. The rides begin in Port Denarau.

Natadola Beach: Fiji’s most beautiful beach, Natadola, is located 36 km south of Nadi.

Thank you very much for that great information - I will certainly be printing all that out for my trip!

One more thing, is it best to book the day trips beofre we go from a travel agent or is better value to do it from Denarau Island marina or on the resorts on Denarau island?

Bula Christo

All the resorts have a tour desk so you can book your trips from there that way you may have time to talk to other travelers that have done the tour or activity that you are interested in before you book also you will be charged in Fijian dollars not Australian so you will save on the conversion rate, also have a look at the Whales Tale tour similar to the Seaspray but you don’t have to change boats

As daveis has said it is best to book in Fiji. Most resort will offer a variety of day trips at there tour desk. Or you can book direct with South Sea Cruises at the marina.

You can then also choose the day you wish to go depending on the weather. Nothing worse than booking your tour in advance and finding that you have pick the only rainy day out of the week!!

There are many great day trips to the islands have a look at the South Sea Cruises website. The (Naihehe) Caves Tour is a good one on the mainland have a look at the Adventures in Paradise site for this one. Includes rafting and village visit.
