Wanaka self catering accommodation

We are planning an extended stay in Wanaka (2-3 weeks in March/April) and would like to find some inexpensive self catering in the area. Are there many holiday homes there? Any website to consult before the trip? Should we book in advance or something can be found upon arrival? Second option would be preferable since we are not sure about the dates. Does tourist info center help with accommodation search? Do they charge any commission for that?

Thank you

Wanaka is very popular with kiwi holiday makers so there are huge numbers of holiday homes. Easter will be busy, although not as crazy as this year as there won't be an airshow in 2015.

Try these sites:

Do note that linen/bedding is sometimes not included or costs extra.

Are you aware that motels in NZ are nearly always self-catering too?

I would really suggest booking in advance if you are wanting to stay in the same holiday house for the entire time, they do get booked out on key dates quite early. Are the dates you will definitely be in Wanaka? If so, book a bach for those dates and then just go to the i-site when you hit town to find somewhere for the uncertain dates.

Wanaka also has a few apartment style accommodation options which would be worth a look - we stayed at one on Lakeside Road which had a separate bedroom, lounge and full kitchen which was very reasonably priced, contact them direct to negotiate rates longer stays.
