Airport Hand Luggage - Fags - Advice

I have just read somewhere that you should not NOW carry cigarette duty free in hand luggage ????? Is this correct ?

Last time I went through gerona, I had cigartettes in my case which I was taking on as hand luggage, and got pulled to the side and they made me open up some of the cigarettes to make sure they had the Spanish logo/sticker on, but now I am alittle concerned ????

Any ideas folks

i have had the same in the past. they open up each carton to check each packet has the duty stamp on them.the spanish do this on a regular basis.

it is not a problem if you buy your ciggies in a proper tabac.

most regulars with ryanair only have hand luggage, so where are you supposed to carry them.

don't worry about it. the only thing you need to worry about really is having a receipt for your ciggies, as there is some spanish law about taking more than 800 ciggies out the country. my understanding is that if you get a tug at customs/security and you have a proper receipt it is not an issue.

I had the same thing earlier this month. They opened one carton and checked for the 'tax label' then let me on my way. I wouldn't worry too much about this. Checking in a case reduces the savings.

I'm over again next month and will let you know how it goes.

I came through airport security at Girona on Wednesday and there was no problem. Waved through and wasn't asked to open my hand luggage. I guess it depends on who is scanning and or if they are busy / bored.

The check in staff were there usual vigilant selves, asking passengers to check the size of their luggage and catching out quite a few. By the time payments were taken, it was a mad rush to the aircraft.
