Your recommendations where to stay in september

Hi,

I'm looking for a comfortable place to stay for a week in September where will be easy to drive on surroundings. I'd like to visit Figueres, Besalu, Olot, Girona, Cadeques and surely Barcelona.

Is Torroella de Montgri a good choice for this?

And what about the weather in mid-September, is it possible to swim this time?

Or may be Girona or its neighbourhood take for the base?

I would be very grateful if you can recommend me any more places to stay.

Thanks in advance

Swimming is fine in September - the water's still warm, but the beaches are quieter than during the height of summer. As to where to stay, you're spoilt for choice - do you want a villa, a castle converted into a hotel, b&b in an old masia farmhouse, an apartment by the beach, a seaside hotel? Access is pretty easy from most places to the places you'd like to visit. Girona would probably be most central, but then you're more away from the coast.

Spb:

I would stay in Tossa de Mar, a small resort that is completely walkable.

Benny always recommends Tossa de Mar (I don't know if he's really visited anywhere else) and though it's delightful if you're not touring, it isn't the best base to use to visit other places as it's a little isolated with bendy roads to reach the north or west. So it's better to have a base further north from Sant Feliu up and then, as I said you're spoilt for choice.

Saul D

Many thanks for your help.

I'm thinking to choose Girona as a base yet. I guess, we can see all sights we want, go on beach once or twice and at night can have a good time at cafe or restaurant, is it right

I've been in Girona a couple years ago and liked it. Now I have found a nice apartment on Carrer de Costabona, and thinking to book it, is it centric quiet and safe?

For visiting Besalu, Figueres and Olot you'd be better off staying in Besalu, there are a couple of nice hotels. By car it will take you no more than half an hour to get to Girona from where you could take a train to Barcelona.

Besalu is inland, as are all the other places mentioned apart from BCN.

Torroella de Montgri is an hours drive from Besalu and Figueres and nearer 1.5 hours from Olot.

The nearest point to swim in the sea from Besalu is Roses, about 30 mins drive.

I'd also go for Girona: train station, major city in the area, plenty of restaurants...

Costabona is not 'the' centre, but again, you're barely 500m from the train station and the Park Central and 800m from the old town. Girona is very compact so nothing is really 'too far'.
